Outdated website: when you need a redesign and where to start

A website is outdated when it no longer matches your business (old prices, services, photos), is awkward on a phone, isn’t technically maintained, or can’t be edited without a developer. A redesign isn’t about fashion; it’s needed when the site gets in the way of sales, and it can be done without losing search visibility.

What it costs your business

Before calling, customers judge you by your website. An old design and outdated information read as “this company isn’t growing” or “maybe it’s not even in business”, and people pick whoever looks more reliable, even if you’re the stronger choice. And a site you can’t edit ages even faster: updates get postponed because every change turns into a separate project.

Why it happens

Outdated website: why it happens

  1. 01

    Design from another era

The site was built years ago: small fonts, cluttered blocks, stock photos, everything that now signals an abandoned website. How to check: open three page-one competitors side by side with your site and honestly compare first impressions.

  2. 02

The business grew, the site didn’t

Services, prices and audience have changed, yet the site still describes the company as it was at the start. How to check: go through the menu and list everything that is no longer true or is missing.

  3. 03

    No usable admin panel

The site was hand-coded or built on an abandoned platform, the contractor is gone, and no one can change even the phone number. How to check: try to change a price or a paragraph yourself. If it takes more than 10 minutes, this is the problem.

  4. 04

    Not built for phones

The site was designed for desktop, while most people now open it on a smartphone. How to check: on your phone, try to find a price and send an enquiry using one hand.

  5. 05

    Outdated technical foundation

The CMS and plugins haven’t been updated in years, PHP is old, HTTPS is missing or misconfigured, and browsers may warn visitors. How to check: see when the core and plugins were last updated and whether there is a padlock next to the address.

  6. 06

    Slow from years of patches

Dozens of plugins, widgets and scripts have piled up, and each change makes the site slower. How to check: run your homepage through PageSpeed Insights in mobile mode.

  7. 07

    It doesn’t answer customers’ questions

No starting prices, work examples, FAQ or clear way to get in touch. The site is a business card, not a sales tool. How to check: write down five questions customers ask on the phone and look for the answers on the site.

Solutions

How we fix it

  1. 1

    Decide what to keep

We review the current site, the pages that bring search visitors and your competitors. We keep what works so you don’t lose Google visibility after the switch.

  2. 2

    New structure and design

A modern design that matches your business: a clear offer, real photos and work examples, and a mobile version planned from the first mock-up.

  3. 3

    Easy editing

An admin panel where you change copy, prices and photos and add new pages yourself. We pick the platform for the job: WordPress, Webflow, Shopify or another.

  4. 4

    A careful launch

We migrate content without loss and verify it with you, then set up redirects and analytics, as we did when rebuilding the CMS of a policy institute’s Webflow site. A website starts from €1200, or a one-page landing from €500 if you need it fast.

FAQ

FAQ

How do I know my site is outdated?

Run the seven checks above: competitors, accuracy, editing without a developer, mobile, CMS updates, speed and answers to customer questions. Three or more failures are a good reason to plan an update.

Redesign or a brand-new site?

It depends on the technical state. If the platform is modern and the admin is usable, updating the design and structure is enough. If the code is outdated or the site can’t be edited, a new one is simpler and cheaper in the long run.

Will we lose Google rankings after a redesign?

There’s a risk if page URLs change without redirects. That’s why we keep important pages, set up redirects and check indexing after launch.

How long does a redesign take?

It depends on scope. A typical turnkey website takes around 30 days, a landing page around 10. We give a precise plan after the brief.

How much does updating a website cost?

A website starts from €1200, a landing page from €500. The exact price depends on pages and features; after a short brief we’ll quote it before any work starts.
