Technical audit of a website, store or platform
An in-depth review of speed, SEO, security, code and integrations with a prioritised report and a fix estimate — so you know where to invest.
Sound familiar?
- The site is slow and nobody knows why
- A vendor says “rewrite everything” and you cannot tell if that is true
- Before a redesign or migration you want to know the risks
What is included
- Site crawl and Lighthouse on key pages
- SEO: indexing, duplicates, metadata, schema.org
- Code, theme, plugins or apps, integrations
- Security and backups
- PDF report with priorities, video walkthrough and estimate
A technical website audit is a manual review of speed, SEO, security, code, integrations and analytics that ends with a report: what is broken, how critical it is, how to fix it and what the fix costs. It is for owners of websites, online stores and platforms before a redesign, a migration or a change of developer, or when sales drop for no obvious reason. Pricing starts from €300, with a timeline from 7 days.
When you need a technical audit
- The site is slow, and nobody can explain why.
- Traffic or leads dropped after an update, a redesign or a migration.
- A developer says “we need to rewrite everything”, and you want an independent opinion.
- Before a redesign or migration you need to know what can be kept and what will break.
- You are buying or taking over a project and want to know its real condition.
- Analytics and ad platforms disagree, and you do not know which to trust.
Typical symptoms are covered on our pages about a slow website, an outdated website and dependence on one developer.
What we check
| Area | What exactly |
|---|---|
| Speed | Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals on key pages, images, fonts, third-party scripts, caching, server response |
| SEO | Indexing, robots.txt, sitemap, canonicals, duplicates, metadata, schema.org, hreflang, redirects |
| Code and platform | Theme, plugins or apps, custom code, outdated versions, conflicts |
| Integrations | Forms, CRM, payments, shipping, notifications — whether data arrives and what happens on failure |
| Analytics | GA4, Tag Manager, pixels, duplicate events, orders without a source |
| Security | Updates, access, backups, HTTPS, known vulnerabilities in components |
What you get
- A prioritised report: P0 blocks sales or indexing right now, P1 has a significant impact, P2 is an improvement.
- Evidence: the page URL, a response header, a code snippet or a screenshot, so any developer can verify it.
- Specific fixes and who should make them: developer, owner, hosting provider or content manager.
- A video walkthrough of the main findings in plain language.
- A fix estimate, so you know where to invest first.
Stages and timeline
- Intro call. What hurts, which pages and processes matter most, what access you can share.
- Data collection. Site crawl, real server responses, Lighthouse, Search Console and analytics if we have access.
- Manual review. Code, theme, plugins, integrations, tracking.
- Report and walkthrough. A document, a video and a call to answer your questions.
A typical site audit takes from 7 days. We work read-only — nothing changes on your live site without your approval.
What affects the price
| Factor | Effect on price and timeline |
|---|---|
| Base audit: key pages, SEO, speed, security, report | from €300, from 7 days |
| Site size and number of templates | More pages and page types mean more checks |
| Custom code or platform instead of a standard CMS | Code and architecture review needed |
| Number of integrations | Each integration is checked separately |
| Deep tracking and attribution audit | Data reconciled across systems |
| Language versions | hreflang and translated metadata checks |
Tools and platforms
Site crawls, Lighthouse and PageSpeed Insights, Google Search Console, server-response checks for different user agents, schema.org validators, Google Tag Manager and GA4 in debug mode, code review. Platforms: WordPress and WooCommerce, Shopify, Webflow, Squarespace, BigCommerce, Next.js and custom platforms. A free instant audit of your home page is available on our website — a good first check before a paid audit.
Instant audit or technical audit
| Criterion | Free instant audit | Technical audit |
|---|---|---|
| What it checks | Your home page, automatically | The whole site, code, integrations, analytics |
| Who does it | An automated check in a minute | A developer, manually |
| Result | A score and the top 3 issues | A report with evidence, priorities and an estimate |
| Best for | Quickly seeing whether there are problems | Deciding where to invest |
How to prepare for an audit
- List the 3–5 most important pages and flows: enquiry, checkout, booking.
- Note what has changed recently: updates, new plugins, a migration, a redesign.
- Prepare read-only access: Search Console, analytics, Tag Manager, admin.
- Write down the questions you want answered: “do we need a rebuild?”, “why did leads drop?”.
What audits find most often
- Duplicate tags and pixels — the same tracking installed in the theme, an app and Tag Manager.
- Pages accidentally blocked from indexing, or the opposite — thousands of technical pages in the index.
- Heavy images and unnecessary scripts slowing down the mobile version.
- Plugins and apps nobody uses that still load on every page.
- Forms that never reach the inbox or CRM, without anyone noticing.
- Missing or untested backups.
Examples from our work
In a Shopify tracking audit we found the GTM container loading three times on every page and 40.7% of online orders in the baseline period without source data, and prepared a fix release with a publishing guide. In a beauty brand website audit we crawled the whole site, ran Lighthouse on key pages and handed over a prioritised report with a phase-two estimate. For a Shopify store with theme and app issues we delivered a report, a video walkthrough for the owner and a fix plan. See more in our case studies.
How to choose a contractor
- A report with evidence, not a list of generic tips from an automated tool.
- Priorities: what to fix first and what can wait.
- Independence: an audit should not be a pretext to sell a full rebuild you do not need.
- Read-only mode on your live site during the review.
- Plain language: the owner should understand what is broken and why it matters.
You can run some checks yourself before the audit: indexing with website not showing up on Google: a 15-minute self-check, and speed with slow website: Core Web Vitals in plain English.
After the audit you can order the fixes separately or put the site on ongoing support. If search is the main concern, see technical and local SEO. Request an audit and we will give you a price and timeline for your site.
Problems this solves
Traffic, but no enquiries
People visit, look around and leave — no call, no message, no form.
How to fix itNot showing up on Google
Competitors appear in search and on Maps, while customers simply can’t find you.
How to fix itShoppers abandon their carts
They add products to the cart, reach checkout — and disappear.
How to fix itSlow-loading website
Pages take seconds to open, even longer on a phone — and people don’t wait.
How to fix itYour website is held hostage
Your developer hasn’t replied in weeks, and without them you can’t even change the phone number on your site.
How to fix itFAQ
How is this different from the free audit on the site?
The free one checks your home page automatically in a minute. The paid audit is manual work across the whole site, code, integrations and analytics, with a concrete plan and price.
How much does a technical website audit cost?
From €300 for a site audit covering key pages, with a prioritised report. Large stores, custom-code platforms, several languages or a deep tracking audit are quoted separately before we start.
How long does an audit take?
From 7 days. Large sites and platforms with many integrations take longer; we give the timeline together with the price.
Do I have to order the fixes from you?
No. The report is written so any developer can work from it: issue, evidence, fix, priority. If you want, we can do the fixes ourselves based on the estimate in the report.
What access do you need?
A public website is enough for a basic review. For a deeper one we need admin, Search Console, analytics and Tag Manager access, and for platforms the repository or server. We work read-only and change nothing without your approval.
